Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team! This position supports the Laboratory Department at our 2410 Round Rock Avenue #150 location in Round Rock, Texas. The typical work week is Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, with no weekends or major holidays.

This position can be hired as a level 1, 2, or Sr based on candidate experience.

Role of the MLT Position

The Medical Lab Technician is responsible for specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and quality control procedures, including moderate and high complexity tests. They initiate and follow quality assurance and safety policies, perform specimen collection, and assist with patient flow as needed, supporting adherence to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with phlebotomy and specimen collection, ensuring pre-authorization and completing consent forms.
  • Support special procedures, such as bone marrow collections.
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, testing, and record keeping; send out specimens for external testing as needed.
  • Perform analysis of Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology specimens.
  • Maintain and operate laboratory equipment, performing regular maintenance.
  • Adhere to quality control policies, document QC activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
  • Participate in proficiency testing annually.
  • Prepare blood smears, perform WBC differentials, and examine urinary sediments.
  • Record and report results accurately, including processing send-out tests.
  • Follow policies for test system performance, identify and correct problems, document corrective actions.
  • Maintain proper documentation, verify critical results, and ensure specimen labeling accuracy.
  • Manage supplies inventory, prepare reagents, and restock as needed.
  • Chart patient results timely, identify and band blood products correctly.
  • Comply with OSHA, universal precautions, and regulatory standards, disposing of hazardous materials properly.
  • Maintain a clean, confidential, and safe working environment.
  • Perform CLIA-waived and moderate complexity testing.
  • May work under supervision of a Medical Technologist or MLS.
Qualifications

Level 1:

  • Associate's degree in medical technology, laboratory science, or related field.
  • Current state license if required.
  • AMT, ASCP, or equivalent certification preferred but not required.
  • Entry-level position, no experience required.

Level 2:

  • Requires three years of experience.

Senior Level:

  • Requires five years of experience.
Physical Demands

Full range of motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination; ability to lift up to 40 lbs; corrected vision, color perception, and hearing; legible handwriting.

Work Environment

Office environment with significant interaction; travel up to 70% of the week by air or car; accommodations available for disabilities.
