Job summary

Memorial Health System is seeking a qualified Medical Lab Technician to collect and prepare specimens and perform laboratory analyses to aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment.

You will obtain blood and body fluids, perform tests, review data, and operate the hospital information system while upholding our Safety, Courtesy, Quality and Efficiency standards. This full-time role is based in Taylorville, IL and requires MLT certification.

Qualifications

• Certification as Medical Lab Technician (ASCP or AMT) is required.
• Experience with laboratory testing and quality control is preferred.
• Ability to operate hospital information systems and enter patient data.

Responsibilities

• Provides care as directed to meet the needs of patients of all ages.
• Performs laboratory tests, evaluates data, and verifies the validity of results through quality control.
• Obtains blood and other body fluids from patients as requested by authorized personnel.
• Operates hospital computer system to enter and manage patient information.
• Promotes safety, courtesy, quality and efficiency in daily work.
• Performs preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments as needed.
• Participates in competency assessment and ongoing education.

Job description

Collects and prepares specimens from patients of all ages for laboratory analysis. Performs laboratory analysis on laboratory specimens to aid physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

• Registered as Medical Lab Technician (MLT) through ASCP or registered as a MLT through AMT required.

Responsibilities:

• Provides care as directed to meet the needs of patients of all ages.
• Performs various laboratory tests, evaluates data, verify the validity of patient test results through the evaluation of quality control sample values prior to reporting patient test results.
• Obtains blood and other body fluids from patients of all ages, employees etc. as requested by authorized personnel.
• Operates hospital computer system acquiring necessary patient information to enter, delete or credit the patients’ accounts.

• Perform preventative maintenance and follows equipment manufacturers troubleshooting guide to solve instrument problems.
• Operates all instruments in assigned areas and performs all technical procedures with minimal supervision.
• Maintains at least cross training in at least two areas of the lab.
• Assists in orientation/training of new employees as directed.
• Participates in continuing education, meets requirements for all mandatory inservices.
• Assists in overall operations of the Lab including cost effective practices and safety regulations.
• Promotes health and safety in the work environment.
• Actively participates in competency assessment process.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
