Job summary

CHI Health St. Mary’s in Nebraska City is seeking a Medical Lab Technologist to perform clinical laboratory procedures and ensure accuracy in test results.

You will handle waived and moderate complexity analyses, operate and maintain lab equipment, and ensure safety and quality across microbiology, hematology, and chemistry testing. The role emphasizes adherence to SOPs, timely reporting, and collaboration with care teams.

Qualifications

• Associates of Science in a biological or chemical science as defined by CLIA.
• High School GED General Studies with military MLT course and Medical Laboratory Specialist (Lab Technician).
• High School Diploma with military MLT course and Medical Laboratory Specialist (Lab Technician).

Responsibilities

• Align lab procedures with local/state SOPs for accurate reporting.
• Provide patient care through clinical correlation of results and timely notification of critical values.
• Maintain major automated equipment through calibration, maintenance, and vendor coordination.
• Perform calibration and quality control procedures and keep compliant records.
• Conduct proficiency testing and review results with lab leadership.
• Assist in evaluating and documenting new procedures and equipment validations.

Job Summary And Responsibilities

As our Medical Lab Technologist, you will perform vital clinical laboratory procedures to detect, identify, measure, and report data crucial for disease diagnosis and treatment.

Every day, you will expertly conduct waived and moderate procedures using technical skills, instrumentation, and information systems, providing essential clinical laboratory support while ensuring the quality and accuracy of all tests under leadership direction.

To be successful in this role, you will possess comprehensive knowledge of laboratory principles across various disciplines (microbiology, hematology, chemistry, etc.), understand sample processing and result interpretation, prioritize chemical and biological safety, and be adept at operating and maintaining lab equipment.

• Aligning with local and state requirements performs lab test procedures on patient specimens adhering to the Section’s Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate, timely reporting.
• Provides excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identification of patterns of bias, rapid notification of appropriate caregivers of critical values, and completion of testing within established turn-around-time limits
• Ensures that major automated equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting procedures; including contacting of instrument vendor for assistance or repair
• Performs required calibration and quality control procedures and maintains records to ensure tests are being performed within established parameters
• Performs proficiency testing as assigned and review results with laboratory clinical leaders
• Assists in evaluation and generation of compliant documentation for the validation of new procedures and equipment to provide the physician with the most current laboratory technology
