Job summary

St. Luke’s Health – Memorial Lufkin, part of CommonSpirit Health, seeks a Medical Lab Technologist to perform waived and moderate laboratory procedures and provide accurate test results. You will operate and maintain lab equipment, perform calibration and quality control, and liaise with care teams for critical values.

You must understand microbiology, hematology, chemistry, and safety practices to ensure high-quality results and compliance with SOPs across the lab.

Qualifications

  • Associates Of Science in a biological or chemical science as defined by CLIA., upon hire or
  • High School GED General Studies completed an official military medical laboratory course and held the military enlisted occupational speciality of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Lab Technician), upon hire or
  • High School Graduate General Studies completed an official military medical laboratory course and held the military enlisted occupational speciality of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Lab Technician), upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Performs lab test procedures on patient specimens in compliance with SOPs.
  • Provides excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results and rapid notification of caregivers of critical values.
  • Ensures major automated equipment is operational by calibration and maintenance; contacts vendor for repairs.
  • Performs calibration and quality control procedures and maintains records.
  • Performs proficiency testing and reviews results with laboratory leaders.
  • Assists in evaluation and generation of compliant documentation for new procedures and equipment.

Job description

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Medical Lab Technologist, you will perform vital clinical laboratory procedures to detect, identify, measure, and report data crucial for disease diagnosis and treatment.

Every day, you will expertly conduct waived and moderate procedures using technical skills, instrumentation, and information systems, providing essential clinical laboratory support while ensuring the quality and accuracy of all tests under leadership direction.

To be successful in this role, you will possess comprehensive knowledge of laboratory principles across various disciplines (microbiology, hematology, chemistry, etc.), understand sample processing and result interpretation, prioritize chemical and biological safety, and be adept at operating and maintaining lab equipment.

  • Aligning with local and state requirements performs lab test procedures on patient specimens adhering to the Section’s Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate, timely reporting.
  • Provides excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identification of patterns of bias, rapid notification of appropriate caregivers of critical values, and completion of testing within established turn-around-time limits
  • Ensures that major automated equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting procedures; including contacting of instrument vendor for assistance or repair
  • Performs required calibration and quality control procedures and maintains records to ensure tests are being performed within established parameters
  • Performs proficiency testing as assigned and review results with laboratory clinical leaders
  • Assists in evaluation and generation of compliant documentation for the validation of new procedures and equipment to provide the physician with the most current laboratory technology
