Job summary

St. Luke's Health-Brazosport Hospital in Lake Jackson, Texas, is seeking a Medical Lab Technologist to perform waived and moderate clinical laboratory procedures, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting under leadership direction.

You will apply knowledge across microbiology, hematology, chemistry and related disciplines, maintain instrumentation, and support quality control to help clinicians diagnose and treat patients.

Qualifications

• Associates of Science in a biological or chemical science (CLIA defined) on hire.
• High School GED with an official military medical laboratory course and MOS: Medical Laboratory Specialist on hire.
• High School Graduate with an official military medical laboratory course and MOS: Medical Laboratory Specialist on hire.

Responsibilities

• Align testing procedures with SOPs to ensure accurate, timely reporting.
• Provide patient-centered care through clinical correlation of results and rapid notification of caregivers of critical values.
• Ensure major automated equipment is operational via maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting; contact instrument vendor as needed.
• Perform required calibration and quality control procedures and maintain records.
• Perform proficiency testing and review results with laboratory leaders.
• Assist in evaluation and documentation for validation of new procedures and equipment.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Medical Lab Technologist, you will perform vital clinical laboratory procedures to detect, identify, measure, and report data crucial for disease diagnosis and treatment. Every day, you will expertly conduct waived and moderate procedures using technical skills, instrumentation, and information systems, providing essential clinical laboratory support while ensuring the quality and accuracy of all tests under leadership direction. To be successful in this role, you will possess comprehensive knowledge of laboratory principles across various disciplines (microbiology, hematology, chemistry, etc.), understand sample processing and result interpretation, prioritize chemical and biological safety, and be adept at operating and maintaining lab equipment.

• Aligning with local and state requirements performs lab test procedures on patient specimens adhering to the Section's Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate, timely reporting.
• Provides excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identification of patterns of bias, rapid notification of appropriate caregivers of critical values, and completion of testing within established turn-around-time limits
• Ensures that major automated equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting procedures; including contacting of instrument vendor for assistance or repair
• Performs required calibration and quality control procedures and maintains records to ensure tests are being performed within established parameters
• Performs proficiency testing as assigned and review results with laboratory clinical leaders
• Assists in evaluation and generation of compliant documentation for the validation of new procedures and equipment to provide the physician with the most current laboratory technology
