Job summary

SPGC Specialty Physicians of Garrett County, LLC is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform and analyze clinical laboratory tests within licensure scope across all disciplines. You will perform quality control, instrument maintenance, phlebotomy, and report results to nursing and medical staff in a fast-paced environment.

Qualified candidates hold an AAS or equivalent, with state licensure and ASCP/AMT certification preferred. Experience as a MLT is desirable.

Qualifications

  • AAS or equivalent degree in medical laboratory technology or science.
  • Current licensure as required by the state board where services will be provided (WV MLT or Trainee).
  • ASCP or AMT MLT certification preferred at time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Process and analyze samples promptly following procedures.
  • Set up, run, maintain, and adjust laboratory instruments.
  • Perform quality control and follow infection control procedures.
  • Perform phlebotomy procedures on patients as needed.
  • Complete forms and report findings to nurses and physicians.
  • Interact with healthcare workers to interpret patient lab results per medical technology standards.
  • Perform routine and basic laboratory testing in designated areas.
  • Recognize testing inconsistencies and take corrective action.
  • Maintain patient and specimen records accurately.
  • Follow safety guidelines for workers, patients, and the public.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital and departmental safety and infection control policies.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, families, staff, and the public.

Job description

Perform and analyze clinical laboratory tests within scope of licensure in all laboratory disciplines by standard operating policies and procedures. Understand method principles, perform quality control, perform preventative maintenance, review, and analyze results as to accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  1. Associate of Science (AAS) degree in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Technology or Science OR Associate’s degree is a chemical or biological science.

2.Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided:

PA : No state license issued

WV: Medical Laboratory Technician License or Trainee License

MD: No state license issued

OH: No state license issued

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  1. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).

  1. Experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician.

  4. Perform phlebotomy procedures on patients as needed.

  6. Interact with other healthcare workers to solve problems and interpret patient lab results within the framework of medical technology.

  7. Perform routine and basic laboratory testing within a designated area in the clinical laboratory.

  8. Recognize testing inconsistency and takes appropriate corrective action.

  9. Maintain all patent and specimen records accurately, neatly, and legibly.

  10. Follow hospital, state, and federal guidelines for ensuring a safe environment for workers, patients, and public.

  11. Maintain compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures for safety, security, and infection control.

  12. Communicate and interact with patients, families, visitors, physicians, departmental and hospital staff, and the public in general, in a manner that demonstrates professionalism and concern for their individual needs.
