Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform hematology, urinalysis, chemistry, blood bank or microbiology tests within its Illinois network. You will analyze results, maintain quality controls, and ensure timely reporting to clinicians.

The candidate should have an associate degree in medical laboratory science or military equivalent and obtain MLT certification within one year of hire, in compliance with CLIA standards. Competitive pay and benefits are offered.

• MLT certification within one year of hire or meets CLIA 493.1489 Standard: Testing personnel qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Utilize the Information System to receive patients, order and collect samples, report tests and produce reports.
• Perform lab tests in hematology, urinalysis, chemistry and blood bank or microbiology by automated and manual methods.
• Analyze test results prior to release to chart for validity and accuracy.
• Ensure designated turnaround times for results and report/ document critical results.
• Perform quality control and proficiency testing and calibrate/maintain instrumentation as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUtilize the Information System to receive patients, order and collect samples, result tests, answer questions from nurses and physicians, document quality control activities and produce reports required to perform job tasks.Perform lab tests in the lab specialties of hematology, urinalysis, chemistry and blood bank or microbiology by automated and manual methods according to defined policies and procedures.Analyze test results prior to release of information to chart for validity and accuracy.Assure that designated turnaround times for results are met and that critical results are appropriately reported and documented.Perform quality control and proficiency testing procedures as defined by policyInterpret and troubleshoot quality control results to ensure accurate and precise test results.Perform preventative maintenance, minor troubleshooting and calibration of laboratory instrumentation.Participates in method and instrument evaluation and implementation.Participates in teaching and training of new partners and students.Maintain competency in current procedures and gain competency for new methods implemented.Collect patient specimens.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEAssociate degree in medical laboratory science or military equivalent or must be qualified to perform high complexity testing according to CLIA 493.1489 Standard: Testing personnel qualifications.CERTIFICATION/LICENSUREMLT certification within one year of hire or meets CLIA 493.1489 Standard: Testing personnel qualifications on or before April 24, 1995OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIESN/ALEVEL OF SUPERVISIONSome independent judgment is required, but alternatives are limited by standard practices or procedures.SUPERVISESThis job has no supervisory responsibilities.PAY RANGE:$24.60 - $36.91Mercyhealth is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
