Job summary

Sanford Health Vermillion Laboratory is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician to join a diverse team dedicated to safe, reliable, and timely test results.

You will handle pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical work while delivering quality care to nursing staff and providers.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in laboratory or biological sciences is required.
• Possess MLS/MLT certification through an approved agency (ASCP or MT) or be registry eligible.
• ND license required if working in North Dakota; maintain continuing education credits as needed.

Responsibilities

• Pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing phases.
• Follow SOPs for MLS/MLTs.
• Ensure laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory requirements are met.
• Recognize safety hazards and follow safety practices and protocols.
• Collect and process lab specimens with proper equipment.
• Perform clinical laboratory testing using manual and automated methods.
• Collect and manage patient blood and other fluid samples.

• Ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met
• Recognizes safety hazards and complies with all safety practices and protocols

• Performs clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods
• Collect and manage samples of blood and other fluids from patients

Qualifications

Associates or Bachelors degree in laboratory or biological sciences required.

Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or be registry eligible. Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) also acceptable. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
