The Ohio State University – James Cancer Hospital's James Stat Laboratory is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Oncology. The role provides primary support to the James Stat Laboratory, performing routine automated and manual tests across chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, urinalysis and coagulation, with duties in bone marrow procedures.

You will report to the lab manager and lead technologists, participate in quality control and maintenance, and handle inquiries about patient

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in CLS/MLS required.
  • MT/MLS(ASCP) certification must be obtained within one year.
  • Experience in clinical laboratory testing preferred.
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 lab environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tests across chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation.
  • Assist with bone marrow procedures when required.
  • Verify and report test results; communicate critical values.
  • Maintain quality control and preventative maintenance on instrumentation.
  • Support training for residents and students.

The James Laboratory provides comprehensive, time sensitive laboratory services to patients with a variety of diagnoses or admission/discharge criteria. The James Laboratory staff performs testing on patient specimens utilizing chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation and assists with bone marrow procedures. The James Laboratory provides training for residents, new staff and medical technology students. The James laboratory is staffed 24 hours 7 days a week.**Position Summary** The medical laboratory technologists’ performs routine automated and manual procedures, verifies and reports test requests and results. Handles phone inquires regarding patient results, specimen collection and testing frequency. Oncology staff uses the laboratory computer system to review report and call critical values to various healthcare professionals. The James Laboratory staff performs and documents quality control, quality assurance and preventative maintenance on instrumentation. Medical laboratory technologists work under the direction of the lab manager and lead technologist(s).**Minimum Qualifications****For Hire:** Bachelor's degree in a clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology AND Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science. Must obtain MT/MLS(ASCP) certification within one year from the date of hire.**On going:** Meets mandatory hospital education and health surveillance requirements.
