Job summary

UVA Health is seeking a laboratory operations professional to manage and operate facilities used for research, teaching, or to assist in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. You will ensure equipment maintenance, implement safety protocols, and support quality control across the lab.

Minimum requirements include an Associate Degree in MLT (or related pathway) and ASCP certification within 24 months.

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or equivalent.
• ASCP certification within 24 months or military equivalent experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or related science may be required.

Job description

These roles focus on performing a range of operational activities in support of laboratory testing, including managing lab equipment, ensuring proper safety protocols, and supporting research and experiments. Responsible for maintaining lab functionality and efficiency.

Individual contributors with responsibility in a clinical discipline or specialty. Typically involves diagnosing, treating, and caring for patients, and often include face-to-face interactions with patients. May also spend some time designing and implementing clinical programs, policies, and services using specialized knowledge and skills. Specialty license or certification required which is acquired through advanced education, training and/or experience. This career stream will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory technologist jobs.

Requires basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and require vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision. Problems are typically of a routine nature but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures. Communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT); OR Associate Degree or 60 semester hours with 6 hours in Chemistry and 6 hours in Biology and Accredited MLT Training; OR Bachelor’s in Biology/Chemistry or related science required
• Licensure: ASCP certification required within 24 months or military experience equivalent to the ASCP.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing, sitting for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping, reaching and repetitive motion. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $27.84 - $44.54 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
