Job summary

The Emergency Physicians Professional Association in Eagan, MN seeks an MLS to perform routine clinical laboratory tests across hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and coagulation, under COLA/CLIA guidelines. You will ensure accurate results and support patient care.

Base pay is $37.55 to $49.80 per hour; the role includes day shifts with a weekend rotation, and oversight of lab equipment and QC processes. A BS and ASCP MLS certification are required.

Qualifications

• BS in MLS/Medical Laboratory Science and 2+ years hospital lab experience.
• Familiar with calibration and QC oversight of lab equipment.
• ASCP MLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory procedures on blood, urine, and other samples as ordered.
• Maintain a quality assurance and QC plan with supervisor and manager.
• Order, report, and cancel tests in the EMR as directed by clinicians or nurses.
• Restock and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies.
• Collect and record patient data needed for test interpretation.
• Communicate results clearly and promptly to the health care team.

Job description

• Base Pay $37.55 - $49.80 / Hour

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) utilizes their education, skill, and expertise to support patient care by performing routine clinical laboratory tests done in hematology, chemistry, immuno-hematology, microbiology, immunology and coagulation under COLA and CLIA standards and/or guidelines, then communicating results to the clinician (physician or APC) or other authorized clinical care staff. This position is primarily responsible for testing and analyzing a variety of specimens, as well as the clinical and operational management of all laboratory equipment, processes, and patient results communication. The MLS may oversee the work of technicians in the lab or use education and training to perform more complex testing or tasks.

Schedule:
This position will have a home site in the Eagan Urgency Room and will work every 3rd weekend. The position is straight day shifts.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor Science degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Sciences is required; plus 2 years of experience in a hospital or health clinic laboratory setting
• Familiar with calibration and QC oversight of laboratory equipment

Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

• Valid American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification as an MLS

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory procedures on blood, urine, and other body samples pursuant to tests ordered
• Implement and follow a laboratory quality assurance and quality control plan in collaboration with the laboratory technical supervisor and laboratory manager
• Order, result, and cancel tests in the electronic medical record with direction from the clinician or registered nurse
• Restock and maintain appropriate laboratory inventory supply levels
• Collect and record pertinent patient data needed for interpretation of laboratory tests
• Communicate patient laboratory data clearly, concisely, and in a timely manner to the rest of the health care team
