Job summary

Endeavor Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join Skokie Hospital on a part-time basis (20 hours). Shifts include pm and night hours on weekends as needed, with pay ranging from $30.46 to $45.69 per hour based on experience.

The MLS will evaluate tests, prepare blood components, conduct antibody screening, maintain equipment, manage inventory, and uphold QA/QC standards. A biological science bachelor’s degree and MLS/MLT certification are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and interpret laboratory test results with accurate reporting.
• Process and prepare blood components for transfusions following SOPs.
• Conduct antibody screening and compatibility testing using advanced equipment.
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and supplies.
• Monitor inventory and expiration dates to ensure proper stock levels.
• Adhere to QA/QC processes and participate in proficiency testing.
• Perform cryopreservation of HPCs using sterile technique per GMP/SOP.

Hourly Pay Range:

$30.46 - $45.69 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate’s expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights:

• Position: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
• Location: Skokie Hospital
• Full Time/Part Time: Part Time, 20 hours
• Hours: pm and night shifts on Saturday and Sundays as needed, 2:30pm-7am

What you will do:

• Evaluate and interpret laboratory test results, recording and reporting findings accurately
• Process and prepare blood components such as red blood cells, platelets, and plasma for transfusions, following standard operating procedures
• Conduct antibody screening and compatibility testing on blood samples, using advanced laboratory equipment and techniques
• Maintain equipment, instruments, and supplies in good working condition, troubleshooting issues as needed
• Ensure proper inventory management of blood products by monitoring expiration dates and maintaining appropriate stock levels
• Adhere to quality control and quality assurance processes, performing routine checks and participating in proficiency testing
• Performs routine processing and cryopreservation of hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPC) according to SOP, using sterile technique and following Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

What you will need:

• Education: Preferred: graduated from MLS (Bachelors) or MLT (Associates) program. Required (at least): Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Science
• Certification: Preferred: MLS or MLT certification
• Experience: Preferred: Previous relevant clinical experience. New graduates are welcome.
• Unique or Preferred Skills: Strong foundation in medical laboratory science. Able to solve technical and interdepartmental problems related to various Laboratory areas with assistance under supervision. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and taking corrective action or notifying appropriate supervisory personnel to assist with taking corrective action. Good communication and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.
