Job Overview

UPMC Greene is hiring Medical Laboratory Scientists or Assistants to help with test development, methodology, equipment evaluation, selection, and implementation.

Responsibilities

1. Perform high complexity testing as defined by PA DOH without direct supervision.
2. Assume responsibility for first-line supervision of the section/department as delegated.
3. Train and orient new employees, students, and residents, as applicable.

Requirements for Medical Laboratory Scientist

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution and successful completion of a CAHEA-accredited Medical Lab Scientist program, or
• Bachelor’s degree with a major in biological, chemical, or clinical laboratory science plus ASCP or equivalent certification, or
• Bachelor’s degree with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science plus at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to MLT.

Preferred: 1 year hospital laboratory experience, knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems. Certifications such as MLS (ASCP) are preferred.

Requirements for Medical Laboratory Technician

• Associate’s degree in laboratory science with certification or eligible for certification from an accredited institution, or
• Bachelor’s degree with a major in relevant science plus 6 months clinical experience, or
• Equivalent education and experience as per CLIA ’88 standards.

Preferred: 1 year hospital laboratory experience, familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems. Certifications such as MLT (ASCP) are preferred. NY license required for NY locations.
