The IU Health laboratories offer some of Indiana's most comprehensive services, operating 24/7, performing over 19 million tests annually. We provide testing services not only to IU Health hospitals but also to hospitals and physicians nationwide.

The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs laboratory tests on patient specimens, providing data for diagnosis and treatment. Responsibilities include maintaining records, using independent judgment to ensure quality results, participating in research, and instructing staff and students on laboratory procedures. All tasks are performed following standard operating procedures, with opportunities to develop and modify procedures under management oversight.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences.
  • One (1) year of relevant experience.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification by ASCP, AMT, NCA, or equivalent, obtained within 12 months of employment.
  • Knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, specialized testing equipment, and routine maintenance.
  • Ability to maintain quality control records and use computer systems for test results.
  • Analytical skills for quantitative and qualitative observations.
  • Ability to work independently, handle interruptions, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and protocols.
