Job summary

Indiana University Health in Indianapolis is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist for the M-Pathology Lab. This full-time day shift role performs a broad range of tests on patient specimens and contributes to quality control.

The position requires a Bachelor's in Medical Technology or related sciences, one year of experience, and certification or eligibility for ASCP/AMT/NCA. Candidates must maintain records, work independently, and follow SOPs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences.
• One year of relevant experience.
• Certification or eligibility for board certification by ASCP; AMT; NCA or equivalent.
• Certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
• Knowledge of complex laboratory techniques and procedures.
• Knowledge of specialized testing equipment and routine maintenance procedures.
• Ability to maintain quality control and other records.
• Ability to use computer to enter and retrieve test results.
• Analytical skills to make quantitative and qualitative observations.
• Ability to work independently; handle constant interruptions and concurrent tasks.
• Knowledge of all laboratory safety regulations and protocols.

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory tests on patient specimens.
• Maintains records of performance and ensures results meet quality standards.
• Provides information for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of diseases.
• May instruct students and staff on laboratory procedures.
• Follows standard operating procedures and may participate in development of procedures.
• Acts as a resource for staff inside and outside of the department.
