Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Technician to join the Microbiology Laboratory in Lebanon, NH. The role involves performing diagnostic tests, quality checks, troubleshooting, and collaborating with the lab team to support accurate patient results.

Shifts are scheduled between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm over a two-week period, totaling 40 hours. A sign-on/retention incentive of up to $3,750 is available to external hires, with certain conditions.

Overview

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics is home to the largest laboratory in NH, providing Pathology and Clinical Laboratory services to DHMC & Clinics physician practices, Dartmouth Health system member hospitals, and independent practices and hospitals throughout NH and VT. This position independently performs a variety of diagnostic tests in the Clinical Laboratory to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease. This position is located in the Microbiology section of our Laboratory.

Our full-service Microbiology laboratory offers career growth opportunities in bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, parasitology, virology, and serology. Our newly built, state-of-the-art laboratory is designed to support evolving technologies and future growth while fostering a collaborative, learning-focused environment dedicated to quality improvement and exceptional patient care.

This is a part-time position working 40 hours over two weeks. Shifts will be scheduled between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm to meet departmental needs.

We are also offering a $3,750 sign-on/retention bonus for this position*. The bonus is available only to external hires, and certain conditions apply.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform a variety of laboratory tests in a timely manner yielding accurate and precise results with a low error rate.
• Ability to appropriately troubleshoot and resolve problems. Ensures that patient results are not reported until systems are functioning properly. Clearly communicates resolutions or next steps.
• Possesses solid knowledge, skills and theory to perform job duties in the clinical laboratory.
• Performs and evaluates quality control and instrument function checks using established quality control practices to assess the functioning of the test system(s). Identifies when a QC problem exists and is able to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Operates and maintains laboratory equipment according to established laboratory procedures and/or manufacturers recommendations, including maintaining supplies. Identifies when sample, instrument, and/or procedural problems exists and takes appropriate actions to remedy the issue.
• Is able to appropriately troubleshoot problems and communicate resolutions or next steps.
• Orients and trains new laboratory staff. Trains bench personnel when new procedures or systems are put into routine use. Trains MLS or MLT/CLT students in bench procedures, basic theory, and advanced skills. Helps develop teaching and training tools.
• Actively participates in the D-HH member's laboratory's continuing education program.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and acts in accordance with all hospital safety requirements
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

• AS degree and minimum of 4 years of Clinical Laboratory experience or Bachelors of Science Degree and minimum of 2 years of Clinical Laboratory experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant technical experience required.
• Ability to work independently and adhere to deadlines and manage changing volumes. Basic knowledge of computer software systems.

Required Licensure/Certifications

• Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT-AMT) or Technologist/Specialist in Chemistry (C-ASCP) or International Technologist in Microbiology (M-ASCP) or Technologist/Specialist in Blood Banking (BB-ASCP) or Specialist in Hematology (SH-ASCP) or International Specialist in Microbiology (SM-ASCP) within 365 days
