Summary:

  • Performs waived, moderate, and/or high-complexity tests and procedures in clinical laboratory sections under the supervision of the Supervisor.
  • Performs clinical laboratory analyses on various specimens, producing and documenting accurate results for diagnosis and treatment.
  • May perform phlebotomy on patients of all ages for diagnostic testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Executes routine and complex laboratory procedures accurately, following established protocols, including pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases.
  • Monitors, performs, and documents quality control, maintenance, and calibration procedures, identifying and resolving issues affecting test performance.
  • Provides technical support to staff, physicians, and other personnel regarding laboratory testing.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment, taking corrective actions as needed, and documents all interventions.
  • Participates in proficiency testing, ensuring compliance with policies, and updates laboratory documentation as required.
  • Assists in maintaining compliance with accreditation standards and may act as General Supervisor for certain duties.
  • Continuously seeks to improve personal skills and departmental functions.
  • Fosters positive relationships with colleagues, medical staff, and hospital personnel.
  • Ensures adequate staffing, training new employees, and teaching students as directed.
  • Performs method validations and investigates incident reports, documenting findings per procedures.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and organized work environment, complying with all safety, hospital, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Manages inventory and participates in process improvement activities.

Credentials:

  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
  • Specialization in MLS or related biological/chemical science, or equivalent experience with broad laboratory knowledge.
