Summary of Job Duties:
This position will work under the supervision and direction of the HLA laboratory supervisor. Medical Laboratory Scientists in the HLA laboratory perform a variety of technical procedures including HLA typing by rSSO and next generation sequencing methods, Luminex based HLA Antibody identification, and donor/recipient flow cytometric cross-matching.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • Must have ASCP certification or equivalent OR obtain certification within 1 year of eligibility or hire date, whichever is sooner
  • Must be able to identify and report abnormal test results as well as communicate and interact with reviewing Pathologists and submitting clinicians. Must be able to work independently, multi-task, and make subjective decisions. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and written.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or clinical laboratory science
  • Previous clinical laboratory experience
  • CHT (ABHI) or CHS (ABHI) certification

Requirements:

  • They are expected to keep all instrumentation in good working order and identify and notify the supervisor or lead tech of instrument malfunctions.

  • They should be able to aid in instrument repair.

  • They should be able to identify abnormal or discrepant results.

  • They will have limited participation in student teaching and assisting of other personnel rotating through the section. They will have limited administrative duties.

  • Perform other duties.
