Summary of Job Duties

The Medical Laboratory Scientist I in Hematology performs routine and complex laboratory tests to aid in diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patient conditions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Sciences or an approved ASCP discipline (30 semester hours in biology and chemistry)
• ASCP certified (or eligible), certification must be obtained within one year of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous clinical laboratory experience (preferably hematology)
• Current ASCP certification

Responsibilities

• Conduct analysis of biological samples to determine components
• Perform quality controls and checks
• Enter test results into relevant systems
• Provide technical information to staff and clients
• Use laboratory computer systems for testing, reporting, and inventory
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
• Document equipment checks and quality control reviews
• Organize and restock supplies
• Communicate with clinics and physicians regarding sample issues and critical values
• Maintain knowledge of policies and regulations
• Maintain certifications and continuing education
• Perform proficiency testing for accreditation
