Job summary

Quest Diagnostics in Webster, TX, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist I to join a busy clinical laboratory. Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, you will perform specimen handling, testing, reporting and maintain accurate records to ensure quality results.

The position offers training and a comprehensive benefits package. A BS in Medical Technology or related field and at least 1 year of clinical experience is preferred, with MLS/CLS credentials valued.

Qualifications

• BS in Medical Technology or related field preferred.
• BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology or an Associates in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
• 1 year of clinical experience (high complexity testing) preferred.
• MLS/CLS or equivalent credentials valued.

Responsibilities

• Follow procedures for specimen handling, testing, and reporting.
• Maintain records showing proficiency testing samples are tested like patient specimens.
• Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.
• Review and release test results.
• Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and safety guidelines.
• Identify problems affecting test performance and notify supervisor.

Pay range

Pay range: $29.50+ per hour

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Job Responsibilities

• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test result.


• Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.


• Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.


• Review and release test results.


• Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines as described in their respective guidelines.


• Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.


• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, correct the problems encountered or immediately notify the senior technologist or supervisor.

Education

QUALIFICATIONS

BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493

Work Experience

1 year of Clinical experience (high complexity testing) preferred.
