Job summary

Quest Diagnostics in Erie, PA is hiring a Medical Laboratory Scientist I for a Monday–Friday shift 11:00 AM–7:30 PM with rotating weekends. You will perform specimen handling, testing, and reporting in the Endocrinology department, ensuring accurate results and compliance with regulatory guidelines.

The ideal candidate holds a BS in Medical Technology or related field (or an AS degree with equivalent qualifications) and has 1 year of high-complexity clinical experience preferred.

Qualifications

• BS in Medical Technology or related field or Associates degree in Laboratory Science/Medical Technology.
• Certificate/qualification per 42 CFR 493 where applicable.
• 1 year clinical experience (high complexity testing) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test result.
• Maintain records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested like patient specimens.
• Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.
• Review and release test results.
• Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.
• Follow policies when test systems are not within acceptable performance.
• Identify problems affecting test performance and notify senior staff when needed.

Pay range: Minimum of $23.93+ per hour; employee may be eligible to receive shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities

• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test result.
• Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
• Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.
• Review and release test results.
• Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines as described in their respective guidelines.
• Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, correct the problems encountered or immediately notify the senior technologist or supervisor.

Education

QUALIFICATIONS

BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493

Work Experience

1 year Clinical experience (high complexity testing) preferred.
