Location: Plainsboro, NJ

Shift Hours available:

Overnight: Monday to Friday 11 pm - 7:30 am, every other weekend/holiday eligible for shift differential rates

JOB SUMMARY
  1. Perform complex study procedures within the assigned clinical section.
  2. Operate complicated automated instrumentation and techniques.
  3. Work independently with attention to detail to interpret complex test results and resolve instrument and/or serologic problems.
  4. Perform duties in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  5. Handle special responsibilities as assigned by the Section Supervisor involving QC/PM Programs.
  6. Work with related complex automated instrumentation.
Accountabilities
  1. Recognize testing irregularities, identify causes, determine solutions, and resolve problems or refer to appropriate levels.
  2. Assist staff in problem resolution.
  3. Adhere to standard operating procedures.
  4. Interpret complex test results and resolve instrument/serologic issues independently.
  5. Maintain accurate computer and manual records.
  6. Train and instruct staff and students.
  7. Assist in implementing new procedures and equipment decisions.
  8. Participate in QA programs, including proficiency testing.
  9. Possess proficient knowledge of LIS.
  10. Follow safety policies and use protective equipment.
  11. Evaluate and implement new procedures and instrumentation.
  12. Exercise independent judgment, including decision-making regarding quality control and maintenance.
  13. Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary staff, including reporting results and technical inquiries.
  14. Work unscheduled or varying shifts as required.
  15. Perform other duties as needed, aligned with Penn Medicine values and policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Education/Experience
  2. Bachelor's Degree in chemical, biological, or laboratory/medical technology science required.
  3. Preferred: experience in microbiology, hematology, or chemistry laboratory.
  4. Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications
  5. Preferred: MLT (ASCP), MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), or other relevant certifications; or eligibility to take ASCP certification within one year of hire.
