Job Duties

Performs and reports various analyses from multiple specimen sources, providing the highest level of patient care and maximizing patient satisfaction. Ensures care for patients across specific age ranges in their assigned clinical areas.

  • Maintains expected productivity levels.
  • Manages multiple work processes efficiently.
  • Completes tasks promptly.
  • Handles specimens properly, confirming identification and suitability.
  • Uses appropriate accessioning procedures.
  • Recognizes discrepancies on patient orders and reports problems.
  • Performs instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control, recording all activities.
  • Replenishes reagents and supplies as per protocols.
  • Follows reporting procedures, both manual and computerized.
  • Accesses multiple computer applications as needed.
  • Assists in training and orienting new employees.
  • Participates in educational activities to stay current in the field.
  • Successfully completes initial and ongoing competency exams.

Education & Qualifications

Medical Laboratory Scientist:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution and successful completion of an ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program, or
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science plus ASCP categorical certification, or
  • Bachelor's degree with a relevant major and at least two years of experience equivalent to a Medical Laboratory Technician role.

Military experience relevant to medical laboratory work is considered and welcomed.
