Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests within established protocols, choosing additional procedures when indicated.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and reporting.
• Calibrates, maintains and repairs instruments; detects instrument malfunction and corrects.
• Performs quality control and quality assurance procedures and takes corrective action as needed.
• Ensures proper labeling and collection of specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients.
• Provides training and technical assistance to staff, students and residents.
• Improves laboratory procedures and ensures compliance with accreditation standards.
• Performs proficiency testing and specialty testing across transfusion, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation and flow cytometry.
• Supports critical care departments with timely results during high acuity events, including transfusion services.
• Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific patient care needs across the lifespan.
