Overview

The laboratories of IU Health offer some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana. Open 24/7, they perform over 19 million tests annually. In addition to serving IU Health, testing services are provided to hospitals and physicians nationwide.

Position Details

Shift: Full-Time, Evenings

Hours: 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, with rotating weekends every third week

Responsibilities

The Medical Laboratory Scientist for Chemistry and Hematology performs laboratory tests on patient specimens, providing information for diagnosis, treatment, or disease prevention. Responsibilities include maintaining records, utilizing independent judgment to produce accurate results within quality control standards, participating in research and development, and acting as a resource for staff. The role may also involve instructing students and staff on laboratory procedures, developing or modifying procedures, and assuming additional responsibilities as directed by management or the laboratory director.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences
  • One (1) year of relevant experience
  • Certification or eligibility for certification by ASCP, AMT, NCA, or equivalent, obtained within 12 months of employment
  • Knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, procedures, and specialized testing equipment
  • Ability to maintain quality control records and use computer systems for test results
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently amidst interruptions and multiple tasks
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and protocols
