Job summary

Trinity Health MI is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist for the Core Lab in Ann Arbor on a full-time evening shift (3:30pm–12am). The position offers 40 hours per week with an $8,000 sign-on bonus and comprehensive benefits.

Responsibilities include reporting test results, performing quality control, and coordinating with nursing units to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Requires MLS/MT/MLT/MLS certification considerations and U.S. work authorization.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, or university in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science.
• Bachelor’s degree in science with relevant work experience in a comparable laboratory setting; transcripts must be submitted at time of application.

Responsibilities

• Records and/or enters laboratory results and flags unusual or highly abnormal results before release.
• Reports results of tests ordered stat and abnormal results promptly according to policies.
• Compares test results with previous patient results to identify unusual fluctuations.
• Performs quality control and maintains/calibrates laboratory equipment used for assigned tests.
• Notifies appropriate personnel of problems such as unacceptable specimens or equipment malfunctions.
• Prepares standards, reagents, and other materials used in testing.
• Contacts nursing units or client offices regarding results and clarifications.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, or university in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science.
• May consider a bachelor’s degree in science with a combination of relevant work experience in a comparable laboratory setting. Proof of educational transcripts must be submitted at time of application.

Experience

• Relevant work experience in a medical laboratory is required if MLS/MT degree is not obtained.

Certification/Licensure

• Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) – ASCP, or NCLS certification preferred.

What you will do

• Records and/or enters laboratory computer results of tests performed and advises supervisor spurious, unusual or highly abnormal results before release of results for reporting.
• Reports results of tests ordered stat and highly abnormal or unexpected results in a timely manner and according to established policies and procedures.
• Compares test results with previous patient test results when indicated, calling attention of supervisor or pathologist to unusual fluctuations.
• Performs required quality control and equipment maintenance and calibrates and operates laboratory equipment used in performance of the tests pertinent to the section) to which assigned.
• Notifies appropriate personnel of problems such as unacceptable specimens, equipment malfunctions, and quality control aberrations, in accordance with department policy on procedure.
• Prepares standards, reagents, and other materials used in testing.
• Contacts nursing unit or client office personnel regarding results and for clarification of requests and other routine problems which may arise.
