Job summary

Trinity Health Ann Arbor is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join the Blood Bank team on a full-time evening shift (approx. 3-11:30pm). The role supports a 40-hour week and features an $8,000 sign-on bonus.

Located in Ann Arbor, this position emphasizes high-quality patient testing and timely result reporting. Required education includes a Baccalaureate in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science, or a science degree with relevant lab experience.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science.
• Bachelor's degree in science with relevant work experience in a comparable lab setting; transcripts required.

Responsibilities

• Record and report laboratory test results and flag unusual findings for review.
• Report stat results promptly and communicate highly abnormal results per policy.
• Compare current results with prior tests to identify fluctuations.
• Perform quality control, calibrate and operate laboratory equipment as assigned.
• Notify personnel of problems, equipment issues, or QC deviations per policy.
• Prepare standards and reagents used in testing; coordinate with nursing units as needed.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, or university in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science.
• May consider a bachelor's degree in science with a combination of relevant work experience in a comparable laboratory setting. Proof of educational transcripts must be submitted at time of application.

Experience

• Relevant work experience in a medical laboratory is required if MLS/MT degree is not obtained.

Certification/Licensure

• Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - ASCP, or NCLS certification preferred.

What you will do

• Records and/or enters laboratory computer results of tests performed and advises supervisor spurious, unusual or highly abnormal results before release of results for reporting.
• Reports results of tests ordered stat and highly abnormal or unexpected results in a timely manner and according to established policies and procedures.
• Compares test results with previous patient test results when indicated, calling attention of supervisor or pathologist to unusual fluctuations.
• Performs required quality control and equipment maintenance and calibrates and operates laboratory equipment used in performance of the tests pertinent to the section) to which assigned.
• Notifies appropriate personnel of problems such as unacceptable specimens, equipment malfunctions, and quality control aberrations, in accordance with department policy on procedure.
• Prepares standards, reagents, and other materials used in testing.
• Contacts nursing unit or client office personnel regarding results and for clarification of requests and other routine problems which may arise.
