Job summary

Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital (GSACH) is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist for full-time evening shifts (3pm-11:30pm) with possible 12-hour shifts. Responsibilities include performing analyses, ensuring specimen integrity, and maintaining instruments.

A $12,500 sign-on bonus is available for eligible candidates. Qualifications include a BS in MLS/related field with ASCP/NAACLS accreditation or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree with approved Medical Technology/MLS program or ASCP certification pathway.
• ASCP certification or NAACLS accreditation required or equivalent experience.
• Consideration for equivalent MLT-MLT experience in a clinical lab.

Responsibilities

• Performs and reports various analyses from multiple specimen sources.
• Maintains productivity and handles specimens with proper identification.
• Performs instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and quality control.
• Replenishes reagents and supplies per established protocols.
• Follows reporting procedures and uses multiple computer applications.
• Helps train new employees and participates in ongoing education.
• Completes competency exams as required.

Education

Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of an ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program OR

Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification OR

Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory
