Job summary

Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley, CA, is hiring a Medical Laboratory Scientist for full-time evening shifts. The CLS will report high-complexity test results and handle pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical duties with minimal supervision.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree, the California CLS license upon hire, and completion of an internship. Preferred candidates may have hospital laboratory experience and strong teamwork within Laboratory Services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Coursework: chemistry (16 semesters or equivalent), including clinical/analytical chemistry; biology (18 semesters), incl. hematology, immunology, medical microbiology; physics (3 semesters).
• California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License required upon hire.
• One-year internship prerequisite to state exam.

Responsibilities

• Accurate and timely reporting of high complexity lab test results.
• Perform pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical duties including specimen evaluation, data analysis, instrument maintenance and problem resolution.
• Collaborate with acute-care and outpatient caregivers, and other Laboratory Services staff.

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of high complexity laboratory test results with minimal supervision. CLS personnel are capable of performing pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical duties including specimen evaluation, data analysis, and instrument maintenance and problem resolution. They often work with acute-care and outpatient caregivers, along with other Laboratory Services staff in performing their duties.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Coursework/Training: 16 semesters or equivalent quarter units of chemistry, which must include clinical chemistry, OR analytical chemistry.
• Coursework/Training: 18 semester or equivalent quarter units of biology, which must include hematology, immunology, and medical microbiology.
• Coursework/Training: 3 semester or equivalent quarter units of physics (light and electricity).
• California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License California upon hire.
• 1 year Internship - prerequisite to the State Exam.

Preferred Qualification:

• 2 years Clinical lab experience in a hospital setting.
