Job summary

Essentia Health is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the team at Essentia Virginia Hospital. The role includes day/evening rotation, 24 hours per week, and responsibilities across pre- and post-analytical tasks, specimen collection, processing, and occasional waived testing to maintain accreditation standards.

Ideal candidates have MLA program graduation or completion within 1 year, phlebotomy skills, and familiarity with lab terminology.

Qualifications

• Graduate from Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or completes an internal MLA training program within 1 year of hire.
• Phlebotomy or MLA certification preferred.
• ASCP certification preferred and knowledge of lab terminology.

Responsibilities

• Support pre-analytical and post-analytical functions.
• Collect specimens via venipuncture or capillary puncture.
• Perform specimen processing to support testing.
• Conduct waived lab testing per standards and licensure.
• Assist in training of new staff and students.
