Job summary

MUSC Health at Summerville Medical Center seeks a qualified Medical Laboratory Technician/Scientist to support high-quality clinical testing. Requires B.S. in Medical Technology or related field, and ASCP BOC certification or equivalent (or certification within first year).

An AS/MLT associate pathway is also acceptable with certification within the first year. Responsibilities include specimen prep, routine testing, QC, instrument troubleshooting, and training of staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant medical/scientific discipline.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent, or relevant categorical certification; if not certified, certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.
• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology; certification as MLT or equivalent; if not certified, certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens for testing and perform routine laboratory tests.
• Conduct quality control and maintenance procedures on equipment.
• Troubleshoot laboratory instruments and address data issues promptly.
• Communicate technical information to medical and laypersons.
• Assist in training laboratory personnel in routine procedures.
• Participate in continuing education and stay current with standards.
