Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT)

Job Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT) is responsible for performing routine tests on blood, tissues, and other body specimens, as well as providing physicians with quality results using various clinical laboratory equipment. The MLT must understand patient safety and laboratory techniques to ensure complete patient safety and anonymity.

Essential Functions:

• Performs analytical tests on biological specimens accurately and efficiently, following documented procedures.
• Determines specimen acceptability through visual inspection or recognizing abnormal results.
• Recognizes factors affecting measurements and results, taking appropriate actions.
• Performs quality control and ensures results meet established ranges before release.
• Maintains a safe work environment by checking equipment, cleaning, monitoring temperatures, and troubleshooting.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education:

• Must have one of the following:
• Associate of Science in Medical Lab Technology.
• Completed 60 semester hours (including chemistry and biology) from an accredited college and a Medical Lab Technician Program.
• Completed a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the past ten years.

Certifications:

• MLT Certification or eligible (preferably ASCP) — required.

Experience:

• Five years of clinical laboratory experience (preferred).

Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to produce quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
• Professional interaction with staff and patients.
