Incumbents must be capable of troubleshooting and recognizing technical problems as they arise seeking assistance from the supervisor when controls fail and results are not as expected. Incumbents in this position may be required to work unscheduled hours and rotate on call responsibilities. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Requirements

Education and Experience-

Education

• Typically requires an associate degree in the clinical laboratory sciences
• High Diploma or equivalent required

Experience

• Performs specialized assays or procedures.
• Ensures that attending physician or appropriate individuals obtain patient lab results.
• Evaluates, troubleshoots problems and makes decisions related to specimen preparation and procedures for preparation.
• Prepares, labels, and performs quality control inspections on laboratory reagents.
• Maintains lab work records.
• Participates in work-related conferences and education.
• May participate in and be responsible for decisions involving quality control programs, instrument selection and maintenance and reagent purchases.
• Participates in the introduction of new procedures and in the evaluation of new instruments
• Other duties as assigned

Licenses/Certifications:

Completion of an MLT certification exam
