Medical Lab Technician II PRN - Queen City Medical Center

Job Summary: The Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT) performs routine tests on blood, tissues, and other specimens, providing quality results using clinical laboratory equipment. The role requires a thorough understanding of patient safety and laboratory techniques to ensure patient safety and confidentiality.

Essential Functions:
  1. Performs analytical tests on biological specimens accurately and efficiently in accordance with laboratory protocols.
  2. Determines specimen acceptability through visual inspection or result analysis.
  3. Recognizes factors affecting measurements and takes appropriate actions.
  4. Performs quality control for all tests and ensures results meet established ranges before reporting.
  5. Maintains a safe work environment by checking equipment, cleaning, monitoring temperatures, and troubleshooting.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:

Must have one of the following:

  • Associates of Science in Medical Lab Technology, or
  • Completed 60 semester hours (including chemistry and biology) at an accredited college, plus a Medical Lab Technician Program, or
  • Completed a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the past ten years.
Certifications:

MLT Medical Laboratory Technician Certification or eligibility through a recognized agency (preferably ASCP) (required).

Experience:

Five years of technical experience in a clinical laboratory setting (preferred).

Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to deliver quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional engagement with staff and patients.
