Job summary

Spectraforce Technologies seeks a Medical Lab Technician II (Blood Bank) for a 3+ month contract at 750 Morphy Ave, Fairhope, AL. Shift: Mon-Fri 7:00 AM–3:30 PM; rotating weekends.

Perform blood bank testing, verify specimen acceptability, and operate lab instruments per SOPs. Required: Associate degree in Biology/Chimistry/Medical Technology, 2–4 years of clinical lab experience (Blood Bank preferred), State license as needed, ASCP/AMT certification, LIS proficiency, and color vision test

Responsibilities

• Perform testing in Blood Bank per SOPs
• Assess specimen acceptability based on criteria
• Conduct routine and complex lab testing per SOPs
• Operate, monitor and troubleshoot instruments
• Make technical decisions and resolve issues
• Prepare, test, and evaluate reagents and QC materials
• Report accurate results to support patient care
• Perform preventive maintenance and QC procedures
• Maintain testing supplies and inventory
• Assist with specimen processing as needed
• Follow safety protocols and wear PPE

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Perform testing in the Blood Bank department according to established laboratory procedures.
• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing based on established criteria.
• Perform routine and complex laboratory testing in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments to ensure proper functionality.
• Make technical decisions related to testing and resolve technical issues as needed.
• Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents and quality control materials.
• Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Maintain adequate testing supplies and replenish inventory as needed.
• Assist with specimen processing when required.
• Follow all laboratory safety protocols and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or meet applicable CLIA and state regulatory requirements.
• 2-4 years of recent clinical laboratory testing experience (Blood Bank experience preferred).
• State Medical Technician license may be required depending on state regulations.
• ASCP or AMT certification is preferred or required (based on client requirement).
• Strong technical and analytical skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency with computers; experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) is a plus.
• Excellent attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
• Must be able to pass a standardized color vision test.
• Flexible to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
