Position Summary

This position performs waived and non-waived tests as defined by CLIA '88 in an accurate and timely manner with supervision. Assists with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA '88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA). Personnel report to department supervisor. May be responsible for the collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens into the laboratory.

Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.

Core Functions

1. Performs testing accurately and timely, ensuring startup, calibration, and accuracy of procedures and instrumentation. Exercises independent judgment, demonstrates comprehension of testing theory, and demonstrates problem resolution skills. Can troubleshoot computer systems used in the department.
2. Recognizes abnormal results, ensures their validity, and participates in detecting and documenting deviations from procedures. Promotes department standards for productivity and quality.
3. Manages supplies efficiently, assists with inventory, and suggests improvements for financial performance.
4. Self-motivated to contribute to projects, actively participates in training, and provides guidance in supervisor’s absence. Completes all required training modules.
5. Communicates professionally with internal and external customers, participates in resolving communication issues, and promotes teamwork. Attends staff meetings.
6. May process and prepare patient samples, ensuring correct identification and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or
• Bachelor's degree in chemical or biological science, or
• Equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting CLIA requirements, or
• Other criteria as defined in 42CFR regulations.

Foreign candidates must provide credential evaluation and translated diplomas. Demonstrated competency in phlebotomy is required where applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

• MLT certification (ASCP, AMT, HEW, AAB)
• Knowledge of specimen requirements and medical terminology
• Experience with phlebotomy and processing
