Job summary

The laboratory at UAB Hospital-Highlands is a fast-paced generalist environment where you will rotate through multiple disciplines, including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, immunology, blood bank, and molecular testing. You will perform routine and moderately complex lab procedures and report results under supervision.

Associate's degree required; certification as an MLT (ASCP or AMT) within 13 months of hire.

• Certified Medical Lab Technician (MLT) with ASCP or AMT within 13 months of hire.
• BLS certification may be required or obtained within 30 days depending on unit.

Pay range: $21.80 - $35.45 / hour

Job Description

To perform, check accuracy and report results of routine and moderately complex lab procedures on body tissues, fluids and other substances as specified by lab supervisor. To perform reagent preparation, quality control, troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance with assistance from a Medical Technologist, Medical Lab Technician Lead or Supervisor.

Qualifications

Associate's degree in a related field required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Students in a related associate's degree program must obtain degree within nine (9) months from date of hire to classification. Must be certified as a Medical Lab Technician (MLT) with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or with the American Medical Technologists (AMT) within thirteen (13) months of hire date. Depending on the unit/department or if the position works directly with patients, Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required or required to be obtained within 30 days of employment.
