Job summary

Boston Medical Center seeks a Medical Lab Technician to support clinical activities by performing waived and moderately complex tests under CLIA 88 in the Lab Support Services department. The role is full-time, 4pm–12:30am with rotating weekends and holidays, reporting to the Section Supervisor.

Requires an associate degree in Medical Technology or CLAS, with appropriate coursework; strong regulatory knowledge and venipuncture skills are essential for accurate results and compliance.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Section Supervisor, provides ancillary support for clinical activities by performance of waived and moderately complex clinical laboratory tests as defined under CLIA 88. Position: Medical Lab Technician Department: Lab Support Services Schedule: Full Time (4pm - 12:30am, Rotational Weekends and Holidays)

JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION

Requires an Associates degree from an accredited university or college in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science or an Associate's degree in an applied science (Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry) with sufficient coursework as defined by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA 88).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Requires the knowledge of clinical tests and standards necessary to perform moderately complex tests as defined under CLIA 88 (see appendix A) and accurately report results. Requires the analytic abilities to perform moderately complex testing as defined under CLIA 88 as listed in appendix A, to perform limited instrument calibrations, calculations and so forth. Requires the ability to maintain compliance with all regulatory agency (e.g. JC, CAP, FDA, AABB) requirements. Requires the manual/visual dexterity necessary to prepare specimens, prepare solutions, screen specimens and operate a computer software system. Requires interpersonal and English verbal and written language skills sufficient to exchange information with physicians, interact with other technologists and so forth. Requires the ability to perform venipuncture techniques. If the MLT has been performing high complexity testing at Boston Medical Center or one of its antecedent institutions prior to 7/1/96, such individuals may continue to perform high complexity testing with accompanying supervisory review within 24 hours. Such MLTs may not perform new high complexity methodologies and procedures not previously performed. As regulatory guidelines are updated, assigned duties and responsibilities will be modified to assure regulatory compliance.

Compensation Range

$25.80- $34.05 This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to position requirements.
