Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician to support the anesthesia laboratory in perioperative settings. You will perform and report results for moderately complex procedures on body fluids and work across lab and operating room environments.

The role requires an Associate’s degree in a related field and MLT certification within 13 months of hire. A benefits package and sign-on considerations may apply for eligible full‑time hires.

Position Overview

Pay range: $21.80 - $35.45 / hour

Sign-on bonus: $10,000 new hire sign-on bonus may be available (full-time only)

Job Highlights

The anesthesia laboratory supports surgical teams across multiple integrated service areas by providing STAT testing to directly support high-acuity surgeries, including transplant and cardiac procedures. You’ll perform cell salvage, autologous blood transfusions, and manage critical surgical support equipment. As part of a collaborative team, you’ll work in both laboratory and operating room environments, an ideal role and great fit for someone looking for unique, hands‑on perioperative laboratory experience.

Job Description

To perform, check accuracy and report results of moderately complex laboratory procedures on body fluids. Qualifications

Associate's degree in a related field required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Students in a related associate's degree program must obtain degree within ninety (90) days from date of hire to classification. Must be certified as a Medical Lab Technician (MLT) with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or with the American Medical Technologists (AMT) within thirteen (13) months of hire date.
