The ideal candidate will meet MLT certification requirements (ASCP/AMT/ABT or equivalent), demonstrate English proficiency, and be eligible for GS-05 to GS-06 grade levels under VA qualification standards.

Qualifications

• Citizenship: United States
• Education: meet certification requirements for MLT
• Certification: hold ASCP/ Board of Certification or AMT OR AABT/ABMS certs
• Exception: temporary appointment up to 2 years for graduates
• Grandfathering: individuals already in VA qualifying roles are considered to meet requirements
• English Language Proficiency: must be proficient in English (spoken and written)
• Grade Determinations: GS-05 to GS-06 progression and KSAs (M LT principles, QA/ QC, instrumentation, teamwork, interpretation)

Responsibilities

• Performs venipunctures with proper technique
• Phlebotomy at a constant rate for timely patient care
• Ensure patient identification throughout collection and processing
• Uses lab computer system for requests and accessioning
• Instructs patients on specimen collection when needed
• Maintains specimen labeling and proper storage temperatures
• Follows Laboratory safety and infection control policies
• Maintains phlebotomy supply inventories and notifies needs
