Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Supervisory Medical Laboratory Technician (Phlebotomy) at the Syracuse VA Medical Center.

The incumbent will supervise MLTs and phlebotomists, ensure quality and regulatory compliance, and lead lab policy development and staff competency assessments. Responsibilities include rotating through lab areas, performing phlebotomy, specimen handling, and off-hour coverage as priorities require.

Qualifications

• Certification as Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) required.
• Phlebotomy skills and experience preferred.
• Experience supervising laboratory staff and shifting areas as needed.

Responsibilities

• Supervise MLTs, laboratory assistants, phlebotomists and other personnel.
• Ensure regulatory accreditation compliance and inspections readiness.
• Develop policies, procedures and performance standards for the lab.
• Provide orientation, competency assessments and staff development.
• Rotate through clinical lab areas and perform phlebotomy and specimen handling.
