Job summary

Buchanan County Health Center is seeking a Medical Lab Technician to perform and coordinate a range of laboratory tests across microbiology, chemistry, urinalysis, serology, hematology, coagulations and some phlebotomy.

The role requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or a related science (or an associate degree) and board certification (ASCP, NCA, AMT) as MLS/MT/CLS/MLT, plus Basic Life Support. 6 months of clinical lab experience and LIS/automation familiarity are preferred.

Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) coordinates and participates in a variety of complex technical tasks in the performance of laboratory tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. This is a generalist position, which includes microbiology, chemistry, urinalysis, serology, hematology, coagulations, and some phlebotomy.

EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology/Laboratory Science, chemical, biological or related degree or 2 year Associate’s Degree in Laboratory Science or related degree required.

Board certification (ASCP, NCA, AMT) as a MLS, MT, CLS, or MLT is required.

Basic Life Support required.

In addition to meeting the educational and/or license requirement(s) associated with this position, must be able to provide documentation (copy of transcript or diploma) to verify completion of education. At a minimum, documentation provided must be for the applicable college diploma(s) and board certifications obtained.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated competence in the area of laboratory procedures required.

A minimum of 6 months clinical laboratory experience is preferred.

Significant skill and knowledge in Laboratory Information System (LIS) applications/automated technology is preferred.
