Memorial Hospital Belleville and Memorial Hospital Shiloh are seeking a PRN Medical Laboratory Technologist/MLS II for the Memorial East Shiloh Laboratory located at 1404 Cross St., Shiloh, IL. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Physical/Life Sciences, ASCP registration, and 2+ years of generalist experience.

The MT/MLS II will perform specimen processing and testing, ensure quality control, maintain documentation, and support lab operations in a fast-paced acute care environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Physical or Life Sciences or related field.
• ASCP Registration or equivalent.
• 2+ years of experience preferred; generalist skills are desired.

Responsibilities

• Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results.
• Trains new laboratory personnel in methods, procedures and equipment usage.
• Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots instrumentation issues.
• Reports and maintains patient test results in the LIS, meeting turnaround times.
• Participates in performance improvement activities and quality initiatives.

Overview

Memorial Hospital Belleville is an acute care hospital offering medical and surgical services plus critical and emergency care including Children's at Memorial for pediatric emergency care. It provides patients a full complement of diagnostic and treatment services as well as heart and vascular care. Memorial, offering medical and surgical services plus critical care, is an accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care and is designated as an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital by the Illinois Department of Public Health. In addition, Memorial Belleville recently was accredited by the American College of Radiology as a designated Lung Cancer Screening Center. Role Purpose

The Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) II performs specimen processing and routine / complex testing on blood and other specimens which requires a knowledge and understanding of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, and procedure methodologies and reference ranges. Maintains appropriate documentation of all activities as required. Demonstrates good clinical laboratory practice

Responsibilities

• Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results. Performs all testing and operation of equipment as necessary to deliver quality results.
• Trains new laboratory personnel in methods, procedures and use of equipment and instruments specific to the assigned area.
• Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary. Assesses technical and or instrument problems, including quality control and abnormal findings, evaluate possible solutions and chooses an appropriate course of action to solve the problem.
• Reports and maintains record of patient test results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turn around times for routine testing and stats.
• Participates in performance improvement activities and initiatives by proactively diagnosing and resolving problems. Specific quality functions are handled in an organized and timely fashion.
