Job summary

Monroe Hospital in Bloomington, IN, part of Prime Healthcare, is seeking a Per Diem Medical Laboratory Technician to join its award-winning team.

You will perform waived and moderately complex testing, adhere to CLIA procedures, and ensure accurate reporting of patient results across Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology and Immunology. Experience in hospital lab and ASCP preferred.

Qualifications

• ASCP certification preferred.
• Associate’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of coursework in a program for MLT.
• Minimum 3 years of hospital laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform waived, highly and moderately complex testing as per CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489).
• Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
• Follow quality control policies and document corrective actions.
• Identify problems affecting test performance and notify supervisor or Medical Director as needed.
• Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment.
• Review accuracy of patient results prior to release/reporting.

Responsibilities

• Perform waived, highly and moderately complex testing as stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489).
• Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
• Follow established quality control policies and procedures, documenting corrective actions when deviations occur.
• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correct them or immediately notify supervisor, Director, or Medical Director.
• Perform waived or highly and moderately complex laboratory procedures using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology and Immunology.
• Perform and document maintenance – daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed on instruments and equipment as appropriate.
• Review accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting.
• Recognize age-specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples and collaborate with other laboratories only after reporting results to the appropriate agencies.
• May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics.
• Assist in development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
• Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
• In absence of a supervisor, may be assigned as Lead Tech with responsibility for the section or department during shift.
• Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by department manager/director.

Qualifications

• ASCP certification, or equivalent (preferred).
• Associate’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of coursework in a program for MLT.
• 3 years of hospital laboratory work experience required.
