Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center in Montclair, NJ is seeking a day-shift, part-time Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to perform routine and specialized clinical laboratory testing for patient care and diagnosis.

The MLS will manage quality control, preventive maintenance, inventory, and participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, education, new employee training, and proficiency testing as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related science.
• ASCP or equivalent certification required with maintenance in good standing.
• Certification lapse downgrades to non-certified MLS until reinstated.
• Previous clinical laboratory experience in a CLS/MLS role preferred.
• Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and special laboratory procedures with quality control.
• Handle preventative maintenance, minor repairs, inventory control, and data compilation.
• Participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, education, and proficiency testing as assigned.

Education

Responsibilities

• The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) functions as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for the performance of clinical laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis.
• This position performs routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventative maintenance, minor equipment repairs, inventory control, and statistical compilation.
• Will additionally participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, laboratory education, new employee training, and proficiency testing when assigned.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

• Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a chemical, physical, or biological science.
• ASCP or equivalent.
  • Certification within a specific area, i.e. M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP) qualifies.
  • Certification must be maintained without lapse during employment.
• If the certification does lapse, the job will be downgraded to Medical Laboratory Scientist (non-certified) until certification is reinstated.
• Previous clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist within a clinical laboratory.
• Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles.

Rate of pay is determined based on experience and education, and may include other pay components such as differentials and call pay based on role.
