You will lead testing quality and regulatory compliance (CLIA, CAP, TJC, OSHA), support process improvement, and may perform phlebotomy and specimen management as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory, Chemical or Biological Science is required.
  • Two (2) years of relevant laboratory work experience is required.
  • MLS with ASCP certification, or MT with ASCP, AMT, or equivalent certification, or specialty ASCP certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and reports waived, moderately complex, and highly complex test procedures on patient specimens adhering to SOPs.
  • Provides patient care through clinical correlation of results and rapid notification of critical values.
  • Performs calibration and quality control procedures and maintains records.
  • Ensures major automated equipment is operational through maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Assists supervisor in preparation of QC and calibration reports and keeps records accurate.
  • Represents CommonSpirit Health with professionalism and kindness in interactions with staff and patients.

Job description

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Medical Lab Scientist II (non-CA), you will oversee the day-to-day operations of an assigned shift or department, performing general testing within the analytical core laboratory, including transfusion services, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.


Every day you will apply a high level of technical knowledge to department testing and clinical relevance, serve as a liaison with other laboratory departments and hospital services, and assist in process improvement initiatives. You may also perform phlebotomy and specimen management duties, consistently functioning in a self-directed manner.


To be successful in this role, you will possess advanced technical expertise in laboratory operations, strong analytical and complex problem-solving skills, and a proven ability to lead, ensure compliance (CLIA, CAP, TJC, OSHA), and maintain high standards of quality and efficiency within a self-directed environment.



  • Performs and reports waived, moderately complex, and highly complex test procedures on patient specimens adhering to the Section’s Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate and timely reporting.

  • Provides excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identification of patterns of bias, rapid notification of appropriate caregivers of critical values, and completion of testing within established turnaroundtime limits.

  • Performs required calibration and quality control procedures and maintains records to ensure tests are being performed within established parameters.

  • Ensures that major automated equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting procedures; including contacting of instrument vendor for assistance or repair.

  • Assists department Technical Coordinator or Supervisor in preparation of QC and calibration reports, ensuring that records are complete and accurate.

  • As a representative of CommonSpirit Health, utilizes professionalism and HumanKindness while communicating with physicians, hospital staff, patients, coworkers, other stakeholders in laboratory operations, and all members of the general public, whether in email, instant messaging, telephone, or facetoface interactions.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory, Chemical or Biological Science

Pay Range

$33.55 – $53.72 /hour
