Job summary

Memorial Health System is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist to collect, prepare and analyze specimens, performing a range of tests to aid diagnoses. The role requires MLS/ASCP certification within specified timelines and a Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, with preference for prior laboratory experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related field.
• MLS/MT (ASCP) certification within the stated timeframe.
• Prior work experience in a clinical laboratory preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory tests, evaluates data and verifies results via quality control checks.
• Obtains blood and other body fluids from patients of all ages as requested.
• Operates hospital computer systems to manage patient accounts and data.
• Performs preventive maintenance and follows troubleshooting guides for instruments.
• Adheres to Memorial Health System standards of Safety, Courtesy, Quality and Efficiency.
• Assists in orientation and training of new staff as directed.
• Participates in continuing education and mandatory in-services.
• Maintains confidentiality and compliance with regulations.
• Supports laboratory operations and assists the manager as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related Allied Health field.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

• Registered MLS (ASCP)/MT (ASCP) required within six months of hire or equivalent certification required within one year of hire.

Experience:

• Prior work experience preferred.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Moderate physical effort.

Responsibilities

• Performs various laboratory tests, evaluates data, verify the validity of patient test results through the evaluation of quality control sample values prior to reporting patient test results.
• Obtains blood and other body fluids from inpatients/outpatients of all ages, employees etc. as requested by authorized personnel.
• Operates hospital computer system acquiring necessary patient information to enter, delete or credit the patient’s accounts.
• Perform preventative maintenance and follows equipment manufacturers troubleshooting guide to solve instrument problems.
