Position Summary

This position requires a high level of technical knowledge and application of that knowledge to laboratory testing, clinical relevance, and complex problem solving. It serves as a departmental resource, assisting with compliance to accrediting agency standards (CLIA ’88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA). Responsibilities may include collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens.

Responsibilities
  • Apply technical knowledge to laboratory testing and clinical relevance.
  • Assist with compliance to CLIA ’88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Collect, receive, and process biological specimens.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and accreditation requirements.
Physical Demands

Stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently. Use material handling equipment to push or pull up to 75 pounds and lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds. Use manual dexterity and standard precautions due to exposure to blood and body fluids, chemicals, electrical and biological hazards.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science/medical technology OR Bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science.
  • Either MLS or categorical certification, or a certificate of completion / letter of attestation on school letterhead documenting completion of any categorical or combination of categoricals from an accredited Medical Laboratory Science program.
  • For Nevada or California candidates: maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Foreign‑educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation.
  • For certain specialty disciplines (Toxicology, HLA, HCTT, etc.): bachelor’s degree with one year of experience in that discipline.
  • Demonstrated competency in phlebotomy (where applicable).
Preferred Qualifications
  • MLS/MT or categorical certification (ASCP, AMT, HEW, AAB).
  • Basic knowledge of specimen requirements and medical terminology.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience.
  • Additional related education and/or experience.
