Job summary

Grady Health System in Atlanta is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist to analyze biological specimens, operate instruments, and integrate results with patient data to support accurate diagnoses.

You will follow quality control procedures, monitor testing workflows, and participate in continuing education. New graduates may be eligible if registry within 18 months.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; registry eligible within 18 months of employment.
  • Certified Medical Technologist by ASCP/AAB/NCA or NAACLS-accredited school registry eligible.
  • New graduates must be registry eligible and certify within 18 months of employment; exemptions apply for certain grads.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze biological specimens, operating instruments and integrating results with patient data.
  • Perform and document quality control procedures; monitor testing workflows to ensure accuracy.
  • Verify results in the LIMS and communicate results promptly to care teams.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development; assist in teaching students and staff.

If you want to make a difference, we want to hear from you.Job SummaryThe Medical Lab Scientist analyzes biological specimens integrating instrument operation, maintenance, and control/calibration with patient data and test results to provide accurate, reliable, and timely information for preventing, diagnosing, or treating disease. Ensures compliance with quality control and quality assurance programs to affect the highest quality patient care.QualificationsBachelor's Degree is required.New graduates (90 days post grad) completing an accredited educational institution must be registry eligible and obtain certification within 18 months of employment. This 18-month exemption only applies to graduates where Grady Health System is their first job post-graduation.Must be certified as a Medical Technologist by:American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) orAmerican Association of Bioanalysts (AAB)National Certification Agency (NCA) orDeemed registry eligible as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) orGraduate of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited School of Medical Technology and registry eligible.ResponsibilityFollows standard operating procedures for collecting, acceptance of appropriate samples, processing and analyzing biological specimens and other substances for routine and complex laboratory tests.Integrates clinical and laboratory data to make decisions regarding possible discrepancies. Verifies results in the laboratory information system. Monitors workload to ensure timely completion for high priority samples.Executes, verifies, and documents quality control procedures. Makes decisions concerning the quality control results and institutes proper procedures to maintain accuracy and precision of testing system.Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and instruments, detects problems and performs corrective procedures.Participates in continuing education for growth and maintenance of professional competence. Teaches laboratory procedures to students and employees in training.Actively participates in developing and meeting continuous quality improvement standards for the department.Provides information to customers inquiring about specimen status, collection requirements, and test orders and results, and ensures the customer receives the information needed.Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor, Technical Specialist, or Manager.Additional duties as assigned.Core CompetenciesThese competencies reflect the values and behaviors expected of all Grady team members, regardless of role.
