Job summary

Trinity Health is hiring a Medical Lab Scientist for the Immunology (Electrophoresis) section at Warde Lab in Ann Arbor. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, with day shift hours from 7am to 3:30pm. Required education includes a Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or MLS, or a science degree with relevant lab experience.

• Experience: relevant work experience in a medical laboratory if MLS/MT degree is not obtained.

Responsibilities

• Record and/or enter laboratory test results and flag unusual or abnormal findings for supervisor review.
• Report stat and highly abnormal results promptly per policy.
• Compare current results with prior patient results and flag fluctuations.
• Perform quality control, calibrate and operate lab equipment for the assigned section.
• Notify appropriate personnel of problems such as unacceptable specimens or equipment malfunctions.

Required Qualifications

• Education Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, or university in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science.
• - May consider a bachelor’s degree in science with a combination of relevant work experience in a comparable laboratory setting.
• Proof of educational transcripts must be submitted at time of application.
• Experience Relevant work experience in a medical laboratory is required if MLS/MT degree is not obtained.
• Certification/Licensure Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) – ASCP, or NCLS certification preferred.

What you will do

• Records and/or enters laboratory computer results of tests performed and advises supervisor spurious, unusual or highly abnormal results before release of results for reporting.
• Reports results of tests ordered stat and highly abnormal or unexpected results in a timely manner and according to established policies and procedures.
• Compares test results with previous patient test results when indicated, calling attention of supervisor or pathologist to unusual fluctuations.
• Performs required quality control and equipment maintenance and calibrates and operates laboratory equipment used in performance of the tests pertinent to the section) to which assigned.
• Notifies appropriate personnel of problems such as unacceptable specimens, equipment malfunctions, and quality control aberrations, in accordance with department policy on procedure.
• Prepares standards, reagents, and other materials used in testing.
• Contacts nursing unit or client office personnel regarding results and for clarification of requests and other routine problems which may arise.
